Delight in color. Sense the poetry in the narrative of the images. Find rhythm in the distortion and out-of-focus elements. Joy in the familiar Tennessee landscape. Question what is being presented. Connect with a way of life. These images are this year's culmination of several projects involving my family farm. As an artist, it excites me to find I can interpret the same place over again with a new approach. Tying the approaches together is a natural solution. Everything comes to rest. I found wonder in the place I learned to see. Technology isolates us from experience. Using a Diana camera, a plastic toy, removes a layer of technology. The challenge of producing work from a simple box with a plastic lens and plain film connected me to my surroundings, the time of day, the season and the moment before me. The reflections here are autobiographical, reactionary to today's photography and a move toward simplicity. What do they reflect for you? |
